Killer Stat--Playoff Teams

The most important stat separating winners from losers in 2001 is Yards per Pass Attempt, Bud's Killer Stat.

If you take what your offense earns and subtract what your D allows, you create the one stat which best produces NFL winners.

The graphics below picture your favorite playoff team's progress on this difference in yards per toss from week one through the playoffs.

League average (zero) is marked by the straight light blue line. In the very first chart you can see the St Louis Rams were stronger than average in 17 of the 18 games. The dark blue trend line shows the Rams getting stronger as the season progressed.

Only in week 5 (vs opponent New York Giants) did QB Curt Warner earn less than the defense allowed.

In 11 of 13 playoff games winners outperformed losers on our Killer Stat. The two exeptions, New England victories over Pittsburgh and St. Louis, were decided on Patriot takeaways.
