Rams End Season at No. 1
The Rams lead the league on our KILLER STAT earning 2.9 yards
per pass more on offense than their D allows. They are
followed by the Packers (2.2) and Steelers (1.3).
Once again, in the 2001 season, the Yards per Attempt (differential)
is the most important stat separating winners from losers.
Typically, teams earning 3 yards per toss more than their defense
allows, almost always win Super Bowl invitations. In Sunday's
game, based on this one stat, the Rams will have a 9-point
advantage.
The Packers were the most improved team adding 7 points per game to
their scoring differential. The statistical reasons? First,
more "hands" and "speed" to throw to, and second, QB Bret Favre
came to work with a good thumb on his right hand.
The most down teams suffered in the standings: In the cellar,
Carolina was obviously not competitive, 17.6 points behind the Rams. The Panthers lost 3.7
points per game this year on the KILLER STAT. And
Coach Seifert suffered.
The Titans suffered injures on pass D and were the league's
most down team, off -8.5 points per game on the Killer.
A recent Super Bowl team, the Titans were felled by the IR list.
The Broncos didn't make the playoffs. They were down -4.3 points
per game. The Vikes were down -2.9 points. No D and not enough
Randy Moss. The Colts, off -3.4 points, were out of the
playoffs. The Saints, second most down on the Killer Stat, lost -5.2
points per game. They didn't make the playoffs.
This season the KILLER STAT has been a real KILLER.
