Stat of the Week

Week 17--
The STAT OF THE WEEK feature highlights the one stat contributing most points to the victory.

Kansas City Chiefs--Cincinnati Bengals
Yds Gained per Play (8.5 vs 2.9) contributed 37.4 points to the 34-point win.

In the final game of the season the Kansas City Chiefs' stat of the week, Yards per Play, contributed 37.4 points per game to their 34-point victory over the favored Cincinnati Bengals.

This data suggests the Chiefs could'a won by more.

Earning 8.5 YARDS per Play--league hi for the year's 256 games, RB Larry Johsnson ran downhill all day. And QB Green almost doubled the average.

Before the coin flip Coach Dick Vermeil announced his retirement. This was his last game. A Super Bowl appearance under his guidance at the Eagles was followed by a Super Bowl win at the Rams in '99.

The Bengals earned only 2.9 yards per play. On both sides of the ball the Chiefs' played championship football. For this one game this huge difference in the two performance values contributed 34.7 points to Coach Vermeil's final victory.

For one of the Good Guys this victory was not a bad game to out on.

2008 Season, YTD through Week 11

In season 2007 Panthers ranked 14th on Yards Rushing (Net) at 114.00.
In season 2008 they ranked 6th at 133.70, up 3.0 points per game on this one stat.
From 2007 to 2008 Panthers improved by 11.7 points per game on Winning Margin.

Washington Redskins--Philadelphia Eagles
Give Aways (1 vs 6) contributed 21.9 points to the 11-point win.

The Stat of the Week in the Redskins-Eagles game was simple. Giveaways. Typically a team can suffer one error (INT or lost fumble) and still win. But two give ups usually lead to a loss. The Eagles gave up 6 big ones.

By comparison Coach Gibbs' Redskins lost only one. The difference of 5 turnovers contributed 21.9 points to the modest 11-point Redskin victory. Again this data suggests the 'Skins could have won by more.

Under Coach Gibbs the Redskins are growing stronger each season.
