Stat of the Week
Week 5 - Yards per Pass Attempt
The STAT OF THE WEEK feature highlights the one stat contributing most points
to the victory.
The San Francisco 49ers' passing efficiency stats have been in decline for years. The Killer Stat in last week's game vs the Indianapolis Colts was Yards per Attempt where they earned a modest 1.6 yards per toss. This season only one other game was weaker.
By comparison the Colt's QB Manning earned 7.7 yards per pass, a championship performance.
The graphic below pictures the two teams' performances over the past 17 games. The 49ers have been stronger than average in only 3 games, and won only one.
By comparison the Colts were significantly below average in only 1 game (JAX).
Fans remember a 49er team with a halo when QBs Joe Montana and Steve Young were throwing to WR Jerry Rice. How sweet it was.
Stats don't win games. People do.
