Week 6

AFC MOST UP

The San Diego Chargers are the AFC's most UP team adding 12.6 points per game to their scoring differential. The stat contributing most to this improvement is total rushing plays which moved up from 29 to 37 rushes per game moving the Chargers' run/pass ratio to the top of the league.

The stat graphic above pictures the close relationship between winning and running. Stats don't win games. People do. And RB LaDainian Tomlinson is the man.

AFC MOST DOWN

The AFC's most DOWN team is the Oakland Raiders off -9.4 points per game in their winning margin. The stat contributing most to the Raiders' crumbling stat profile is their Opponents Rush/Opponent Pass ratio which cost them -9.6 points per game (fully accounting for the decline).

One of the sad things about the long ago Raider glory days is the league average on this key D stat. The yellow league average line doesn't show up in the graphic. Repeat, DOES NOT show up on the graphic.

Reason why? They've been below average for 5 of the last 6 years and only slightly stronger than average twice in the last 15 years.

Ouch.

If you can't stop the run your team is not playing pro football.
