NFC: Most UP

Through Week 13 this stat contributed 9 points
to this season's 12.4-point change UP:

New England Patriots

Pct TDs per Pass with Winning Margin
Yearly 2000 to 2007

New England Patriots

In season 2006 Patriots ranked 8th on Pct TDs per Pass at 4.50.
In season 2007 they ranked 1st at 9.03, up 8.88 points per game on this one stat.
From 2006 to 2007 Patriots improved by 12.4 points per game on Winning Margin.

Week 13

AFC MOST UP

After 13 weeks the New England Patriots continue to lead the AFC's MOST IMPROVED list adding 14.1 points per game to their scoring differential.

The stat contributing most points to this improvement is also the stat that is sending them to the Super Bowl, Percent TDs per Pass, where the Pats are league leaders. The Pats score on every 11 attempts. The average team is near 3 1/2%.

It's always nice to be 300% stronger than your opposition.

Coach Bill Belichick's genius for collecting playmakers developed a halo around WR Randy Moss. And when added to the staff of great receivers QB Brady looked GREAT with Moss and his one handed catching performances scoring a TD on every 4 completions.

Percent TDs per Pass is one of our key Killer Stats. Along this line fans should note that the Dallas Cowboys rank 2nd. Our electronic hardware has had them projected for a Super B visit since early in the season. (see Archives for past season-long Scoring Projections. Scroll down for text on Super Bowl matchups).

AFC: Most DOWN

Through Week 13 this stat contributed -8.1 points
to this season's -14.1-point change DOWN.

Baltimore Ravens

Sack Yards Lost Dif with Winning Margin
Yearly 2002 to 2007

Baltimore Ravens

In season 2006 Ravens ranked 1st on Sack Yards Lost Dif at 19.88.
In season 2007 they ranked 22nd at -4.33, down 10.41 points per game on this one stat.
From 2006 to 2007 Ravens declined by 14.8 points per game on Winning Margin.

Week 13

AFC MOST DOWN

Teams run hot and cold. The Baltimore Ravens are especially good at it. The strongest team last year and the MOST DOWN team in 2007 on passing efficiency stats, the Ravens delivered an Oscar winning elevator's UP/DOWN performance.

After 13 weeks of 2007 they are the MOST DOWN on their D passing efficiency stats. The specific stat contributing to the downfall is Sack Yards plus INT Return Yards. In measuring passing "efficiency" they are Killer Stats.

And their D, on average this season has barely delivered a pass rush.

By comarison the Cowboys earn 46 yards per game on sacks and INT return yardage, the Patriots 45 and the modest Cardinal's D earns 50. Hey, the Ravens have done only half as well earning a puny 25 yards per game reaching the QB and/or returning INTs.

It has cost them 10.4 points per gme, more than half their -14.8 point decline in their winning margin.

To complete the picture, the most down team on the winning margin, the Ravens have also lost -6 points per game on opponent rushes. These two stats come from 2 different groups involving different players.

What does this mean? The two stats can be ADDED together to measure the total impact their hot and cold habits produced this season.

The two stats described (pass D and rush D) account for -14.1 points almost fully covering their scoring differential's -14.8 decline.

Merry Christmas,
