AFC: Most UP

Through Week 14 this stat contributed 7.1 points
to this season's 12.4-point change UP:

New England Patriots

Yards per Pass Att with Winning Margin
Yearly 2000 to 2007

New England Patriots

In season 2006 Patriots ranked 12th on Yards per Pass Att at 6.12.
In season 2007 they ranked 1st at 8.09, up 7.09 points per game on this one stat.
From 2006 to 2007 Patriots improved by 12.4 points per game on Winning Margin.

Week 14

AFC MOST UP

The New England Patriots remain at the top of the Most UP AFC teams adding 14.2 points per game to their scoring differential (winning margin).

The stat contributing most points to this improvement is from our passing efficiency group of stats which will once again send Coach Bill Belichick's Pats to the Super Bowl.

The stat graphic above pictures the burst of power the Pats' pass offense shot skyward this season. Adding WR Randy Moss was a stroke of coaching genius. As a result all 15 of our group's pass efficiency measures are improved (more than half of them up from 1st to 5th).

No question but what the Patriots QB Brady and his brace of receivers are the league's Tyrannosaurus Rex crunching their opponents' pass D. They don' play nice against low-raked teams.

This week facing the New York Jets on this one stat the Pat's offense has an advantage on our Killer Stat I of 9.3 points.

AFC: Most DOWN

Through Week 14 this stat contributed -1.8 points
to this season's -7.2-point change DOWN.

New York Jets

Yards per Pass Att with Winning Margin
Yearly 2002 to 2007

New York Jets

In season 2006 Jets ranked 16th on Yards per Pass Att at 6.04.
In season 2007 they ranked 24th at 5.53, down 1.84 points per game on this one stat.
From 2006 to 2007 Jets declined by 7.2 points per game on Winning Margin.

Week 14

AFC MOST DOWN

The Jets are not the AFC's most down team. Batimore, Miami, Kansas City and San Diego have fallen further. This week the improving Pats face the declining Jets and the same passing efficiency stats that took the Pats UP brought the Jets DOWN.

The Jets' stat graphic above pictures the tight correlation between yards per toss and the scoring differential. Over the past three season the linkage or association between the two stats is almost 100% (years in which the yards per toss stat improves, the winning margin improves).

This year Yards per Pass Attempt once again is the most important stat separating winners from losers
