Stat of the Week

Week 12--
The STAT OF THE WEEK feature highlights the one stat contributing most points to the victory.

San Diego Chargers--Baltimore Ravens

Yards Lost Passing (0 vs 37) contributed 17.9 points to the 18-point win.

The stock market may have taken a nose dive. But the Balltimore Ravens over the last couple of months have led the loser list down 15 points per game in their scoring differential.

The stat graphic below pictures last week's Ravens-San Diego Chargers game where the Chargers lost no yardage on QB sacks but the Ravens lost 37 big ones. In the last 4 games they have gone overboard in 3 and are drowning in lost QB sack yardage.

As this space has pointed out in the past the QB sack and associated sack yardage are likely the most underrated stats separating winners from losers. The sack leads to a punt and the punt is a turnover. In last week's game QB sack yardage contributed 17.9 points to the 18-point loss.

This season the Ravens' loss of 15 points per game is tied directly to the loss in passing efficiency. They are 24th in the league in allowing sack yardage and lost more ground on this stat than any other AFC team.

Looking at their schedule of remaining games, the electronic hardware sees only one potential victory (Miami). (See projection matrix, Predict Report, scroll down for Baltimore.) But it is a close game and could lead to zip Raven wins for the remainder of the season.
