Panthers' Offense vs Patriots' Defense

When the Panthers' offense meets the Patriots's defense on Super Bowl Sunday, the stat with the biggest points advantage is Yards per Play. With the Patriots on defense (their strong suit), they have an advantage over the Panthers' offense of 4.7 points on this one stat.

In addition, the dark blue trend line shows that as the season progressed the Pats' D grew stronger (trend line going down, meaning fewer points allowed). Compare the two charts below.

Yds Allowed/Opp Play

New England Patriots

2003 through Week 17

Yds Gained per Play

Carolina Panthers

2003 through Week 17

This stat covers both yards per pass and yards per rush. In this sense the Pats D will have to nuetralize Steven Davis' running game.

Red zone rushing TDs is where it's at. The upstart Panther running game is strong on rushing TDs.

We'll have to wait to see what happens.
