Super Bowl: Steelers vs Seahawks
Sacks! Hurries! Pressures! The passing efficiency stats are going
to be the keys to winning the Big Game. With Seattle on offense
facing the Steeler D Seahawks' QB Matt Hasselbeck must be quick and
slick on his efficiency--the group of stats our research shows to
be the key matchup in Sunday's game.

The stat graphic above shows the Steelers rank 4th in the league on D
QB Sacks less than a point per game behind the leading 'Hawks.
Steeler OLB Joey Porter, 6' 3" and 250 is quick. He leads the pass
rush with 10.5 sacks this season. He doesn't match the magic number
of one sack per game set by Reggie White. But 10.5 sacks is still a
lot of QBs stuck in the teeth of this tough line backer.
Why is the sack a likely key in this game? All stats are linked. All
stats contribute some point value to the offense and D. The sack does
not get much newspaper print or TV/radio air time. It is a key stat and deserves
more attention than it receives.
But year in and year out each QB sack contributes 3 points to the
winning margin.
So in a game matching two equal teams, offense facing defense,
linebacker Porter's skills could be the 3-point play that makes the
Steelers a winner. One extra sack. That's all.
Will QB Hasselbeck get dropped? How often?
