Eagles at Vikings

A pair of improved teams--adding about one TD per game--that's the matchup on Sunday when the Eagles visit the Vikings.

In Minnesota, improved performance in their passing efficiency stats with QB Tavaris Jackson returning to the Vikes' lineup added 6.8 PPG on their TDs Passing stat. This is one of the 4 QB rating factors used by the NFL measuring QB performance. It is just as important on defense as on offense. See your team's performance relative to the league:

2008 Season, YTD through Week 17

In season 2007 Vikings ranked 28th on TD Passes Differential at -0.63.
In season 2008 they ranked 6th at 0.44, up 6.8 points per game on this one stat.
From 2007 to 2008 Vikings declined by 0.5 points per game on Winning Margin.

The yearly graph below pictures the impact made on the Vikings Winning Margin:

Minnesota Vikings

In season 2007 Vikings ranked 28th on TD Passes Differential at -0.63.
In season 2008 they ranked 6th at 0.44, up 6.83 points per game on this one stat.
From 2007 to 2008 Vikings declined by 0.5 points per game on Winning Margin.

The importance of the stat shows up well in this graphic. Years in which the Vikings improved on TDs Passing were years in which their Winning Margin also improved.

QB Jackson can run and he can throw and he has a WR in Bernard Berrian who looks like a revived Paul Warfield who year in and out earned more than 20 yards per completion.

The Vikes have the threat of BIG PLAYS.

Will we see it?

To stomp on this Viking offensive pass threat is the improvement made by the Philadelphia Eagles on QB Sacks per game. Typically the league leader in sacks averages 16 crunches in 16 games. One sack in one game is what the champs earn. But the Eagles have DeMarcus Ware body slamming pass blockers 21 times this year. Below is a yearly graphic picturing the impact DeMarcus Ware has had this season contributing to the Eagle's Winning Margin:

Yearly 2004 to 2008

Philadelphia Eagles

In season 2007 Eagles ranked 25th on Times QB Sacked Dif at -0.81.
In season 2008 they ranked 3rd at 1.56, up 7.68 points per game on this one stat.
From 2007 to 2008 Eagles improved by 5.7 points per game on Winning Margin.

Will DeMarcus Ware plant QB Jackson in the ersatz lawn in Vikes' indoor stadium? Will a fast track give DeMarcus an edge?

We'll see.
