2008 Season, YTD through Week 17

In season 2007 Cardinals ranked 8th on Yards per Pass Att at 6.62.
In season 2008 they ranked 6th at 7.10, up 2.0 points per game on this one stat.
From 2007 to 2008 Cardinals declined by 0.3 points per game on Winning Margin.

Arizona Cardinals' QB Kurt Warner led the league in his 1999 Super Bowl appearance (Coach Dick Vermeil's St. Louis Ramss' victory) and in that season were the league's most improved team (moving from 5+ yards per toss to 7.5). This performance was produced with playmakers like RB Marshall Faulk, WR Tory Holt (first WR taken in '99 draft) and returning from IR list, WR Isaac Bruce. This collection of speed and "hands" were perfect targets for gunner Kurt Warner. In that '99 season QB Warner added a humongous 9 1/2 PPG to the Ram's Winning Margin.

Then as now QB Kurt Warner's teams can score from anywhere on the field.

By comparison, this season the Steelers rank 20th earning less than league average at 5.95 yards per toss.

On this one stat, facing the vaunted Steeler pass D, Pittsburgh still has a 2 1/2-point edge.

Goode suggests the data shows Kurt Warner has already beaten some good Playoff pass Defenses (Eagles and Panthers) This stat graphic pictures the Cards' passing efficiency performances for the year's 20 games.

Arizona Cardinals

2008 through Week 17

Caption: Atlanta Falcons are league leader with 7.9 Yards per Pass Attempt.
Arizona Cardinals with 7.3 Yards per Pass Att are 2.5 points per game behind the leader.

This season, are the Arizona Cardinals improved? Yes But only 2 points per game. Coach Whisenhunt grew the Cards a mile in the prior '08 season. A couple of extra wins put his Cardinals at the top of their division and they had no sweat making the playoffs.

Their passing efficiency stats top the Steelers' QB Ben Roethlesberger. In the plalyoffs to date Cards' WR Larry Fitzgerald, with only 23 receptions has scored 5 TDs. That's near the average for WR Randy Moss and history's "World's Fastest Man," Cowboys' WR Bob Hayes. They all make one handed circus catches look easy.

Can it happen again?
