Vikings at Packers

Rematch of last week's great game that saw Vikes RB Peterson nearly break the season rushing record. This time the game is at Lambeau Field in Green Bay.

Our computer favors the Packers by 9. The main reason is the modest passing attack of the Vikings. Earning just 5.39 yards per pass, ranking 29th in the league on the most important indepenedent stat in the game puts the Vikes in the heavy underdog spot. Last week they outplayed their season average earning 7.8 yards per pass (best since opening day). But can the repeat this in Green Bay?

With AP the Vikes have a potent rush and also bring a stout defense to the game. Their pass rush is solid and they face a Green Bay passing game that has fallen off sharply from their league-leading attack a couple seasons ago. On our key passing efficiency stat, Yards per Pass Attempt, the Packers now barely rate above average (12th in the league at 6.65). QB sacks are drive-killers and Packers rank 31st in the league taking the sack more than 3 times per game. The chart below shows that in their 5 losses they were sacked 3, 8, 5, 5 and 5 times. Ouch.

2012 through Week 17

Keep an eye on QB Rodgers. If the Vikes D can put him on the ground they've got a chance.
