Chargers at Broncos

Great effort by the Chargers last week vs Bengals keeps them in the picture. They put up a strong pass defense, more in line with their last few games than their weak seasonal average. They will need that effort again, this time against the leauge-leading Denver Broncos.

Broncos, a passing team, lead the league on yards per pass attempt, points scored (see below) and winning margin. They've been our pick to win the Super Bowl almost the entire year. But they do have some weaknesses and a modest defense is one. They give up points but they win easily by greatly outscoring opponents. An outstanding season for vet QB Manning.

Denver Broncos

2013 through Week 17

Like the NFC West, the AFC West is the strongest in their conference, producing three playoff teams including the two meeting in this contest. Only one can move on after this game and while the computer favors the Broncos by nearly 12, the Chargers have shown they can play well above their season-long stats. Even in an uninspiring regular-season campaign they did beat the Broncos. If Charger QB Rivers keeps a hot hand, they are in this game.
