Jaguars at Steelers

This game is a bit of a head scratcher. Jaguars handled the visiting Bills and now travel to Pittsburgh to face the 13-3 Steelers.

The Jags led the league on our key defensive stat, yards per pass attempt allowed. They were the only team allowing less than 5 yards per toss at 4.82. Our computer loves the stat and has rated Jacksonville as a prime contender for the Super Bowl, sometimes even the leading candidate from the AFC. We repeat last week's chart on the above mentioned stat. Notice how the Jags regularily hold opponents below league average (the aqua-colored line).

2017 through Week 17

Conversely, the Steelers earn a solid 7.14 yards per pass attempt, good for 4th rank in the league. It's a matchup of strength vs strength. Here's the curious part: our computer pegs the Jags as favorites, playing at a tough Steeler home field. By 1 1/2 points. They did meet in week 5 and the Jaguars won big. But that was at Jacksonville. Maybe they can win again, but I'm thinking Steelers pull this out. Figures to be a close game.
