Bengals at Titans

Bengals beat the Raiders and now face the Titans. They won with their good passing game and were able to stop the Raiders pass offense, allowing just 5.0 yards per pass. In the Titans, Bengals face a good running team with a modest pass offense.

Titans rank just 23rd on our killer stat offense, yards per pass attempt, in contrast to near league-leading Bengals.

Titans prefer the rushing game as seen by their league-leading rushing attempts at 33 per game. This is pictured in the chart below. All season long they've won the ball control battle on their way to capturing the AFC South title.

Number of Rushing Plays - Tenn Titans

Not helping the Titans in their matchup against the Bengals' passing game is their mid-pack rank on pass D, as seen here: Killer Stat, Defense.

Our computer likes the Titans by 3.5 points, entirely due to home field advantage. On neutral ground, it's a dead heat. Even though I am a fan of running teams, and the potential edge on the clock game, I'm taking the Bengals. I think their passing game is special and won't be stopped, forcing the Titans out of the run game to try to match points on the scoreboard. Edge to Bengals in this scenario.
