2003 vs 2002 Schedules. Who Benefits?

Schedules can make or break a season. For example, lots of preseason pundits are picking the Chiefs to make the playoffs--even win the tough AFC West division.

Their 2003 schedule helps. In 2002, Chiefs played the league's toughest schedule facing a set of opponents that won their average game by almost a point. But in this 2003 season, their opponents lost their average game by 1.1 points. The difference in the two schedules is 2.0 points per game--a big swing in the Chiefs' favor.

What other teams face easier schedules this season? Bears, Seahawks, Cardinals, Rams and 49ers (see the two charts, above).

Which teams see tougher schedules in 2003? The Eagles had the easiest schedule in '02 (-2.0 points) but now face winners (0.7 points) in '03, a tougher schedule by 2.7 points per game.
