Super Bowl: Bears-Colts

Colts' QB Manning led the league over the past 2 years on our Killer Stat, yards per pass. Earning more than 7 yards per toss in both 2005 and 2006 his passing efficiency stats go through the roof. The stat graphic below pictures the Colts' performance relative to Bears' QB Grossman's 6.09 (barely over league average, 14th).

However, in the same 2-year period Coach Lovey Smith has moved the Bears from the bottom to the middle of the ladder adding 7+ points per game on offense. Most of this improvement was earned in the current season (5.89 points, RED graphic above).

The stat graphic below pictures the weekly performance for the Colts on offense facing the Bears' pass D.

Yards per Pass is the most important stat separating winners from losers. So the strongest offense (Colts) and the strongest defense (Bears) on passing efficiency will make this Super Bowl one to watch.

This season the Colts are the league leaders on offense earning 7.7 yards per toss while the Bears' lead the league on pass D allowing only 5.02 yards per opponent attempt.

The dark blue TREND line shows the Colts were stronger than league average all season. The same is true for the Bears' pass D. If the two teams play to statistical form on this key Killer Stat, yards per pass, the Colts have a 2.3-point edge.

The stat graphic below pictures the Bears, leading the league on pass D allowing only 5.02 yards per opponent pass while the Colts pass D allows 5.79 (rank 13th)

This is the second season Coach Lovey Smith's pass D has looked like a fortress.
