Lions at 49ers

Lions advanced by beating Bucs by a TD while the 49ers squeaked by the Pack by a FG. Both teams grabbed 2 INTs while throwing none. Solid defense while taking care of the football. Now they meet in SF for the conference championship.

While performing well so far in the playoffs, the Lions bring a low-rated pass defense into this game.

Detroit ranks low on pass defense at 30th over the full season. SF is strong at 4th. See both teams on the defensive side of our Killer Stat, (Yards per Pass attempt) chart. Killer Stat, Defense.

On offense, both teams rank near the top, with Lions 3rd and 49ers 1st. Killer Stat, Offense.

This is the challenge for the Lions: their pass D faces a league-leading pass offense. On paper, a mismatch. Not the same problem for 49ers on pass defense, an even match against the Lions strong offense.

Our computer has liked the 49ers all season and they've managed to make it this far to play for the conference championship. They've had some close calls. Will it be another close one? The computer doesn't think so and favors the 49ers by 12.5 with 3 for the home field. I'll go along and think it's about time we see SF at their best, too much for the Lions.
