Dolphins at Chiefs

The surprising Dolphins travel to KC to meet the Chiefs. Chiefs have been a steady fixture in the playoffs, making a deep championship run in all recent years. We know what the Chiefs can do. Let's look at how the Dolphins got here.

They did it through the air, racking up passing yards. We can see it in the chart below, Yards Passing, where Dolphins were stronger than league average in all but five games. It's an arial onslaught.

2023 through Week 17

      Yards Passing -- Miami Dolphins

Not surprisingly, they rank high on Yards per Pass Attempt, our killer stat. League's second best behind 49ers. Killer Stat, Offense. Somewhat of a surprise, KC comes in at only rank 13.

But football is an equal combination of offense and defense and this Chiefs' defensive squad is tough against the pass. They rank 3rd in the league. Miami is not soft either at rank 7. Find both teams on the defensive side of our Killer Stat, (Yards per Pass attempt) chart. Killer Stat, Defense. The key to this game is how well two powerful defensive teams can stop two powerful passing attacks.

Although QB Mahomes numbers are not up to recent years, we all know what he can do in big games. Our computer likes Miami by one. That's after giving KC 3 points for the home field. It's an exciting matchup and promises to be a great game. While it's nearly impossible to go against the Chiefs and their recent playoff record, I'll side with our computer and pick the upstart Dolphins.
