Chargers at Texans

In the kickoff game of Wildcard Weekend, the L.A. Chargers take on the Texans in Houston. Both teams bring stronger than average defenses and somewhat modest offenses. Of the two, the Texans struggle more to move the ball with a yards per pass average of just 5.65, rank 25th, and well below league average.

Since we count QB Sacks as incomplete passes, high sack figures knock down the yards per pass average. And the Texans get sacked way too often. Each sack is worth about 3 points in the winning margin--a few sacks make it hard to win the game. Their performance is pictured in the graph below. Note 8 games with 4 or more sacks leading to 6 losses.

      QB Sacks -- Houston Texans

Our computer likes the Chargers by 2.5 points after giving Houston 3 for the home field. I'm siding with the Chargers as well as they look like a better-balanced, offense to defense team.
