Cowboys at 49ers

Last season, the division-winning Cowboys saw the visting, wildcard 49ers end their playoff hopes early. After beating the Bucs, the Cowboys now go to SF to try and turn the tables on the 49ers.

Let's look at the weekly Predict Report, which includes a stat matchup table at the bottom of the page. Both teams run the ball. Pretty even so far.

On the most important stat in the game, yards per pass attempt, things are close to even. See killer stat, offense, where Cowboys rank 11th and 49ers rank 5th.

On the other side of the ball, the two teams are excellent and equally matched, killer stat, defense, with Dallas ranking 3rd and SF ranking 5th. Close overall on the passing game, slimmest of advantages to the 49ers.

Our computer likes the home team 49ers by just 2 points and that's after assigning a 3-point advantage for home field. On a nuetral field it would be 'Boys by 1. I really like the way this 49er team plays the game. But, as you know by now, I also favor teams coming out of strong divisions and the NFC North has three teams in the second round of the playoffs. It's hard form me to pick between these two but since I played my 'weasel out' card already, I feel like I have to take a stand. 49ers in a close one.
