Giants at Eagles

After the win in Minnesota, which did not surprise us, the Giants make the short trip to Philly to take on the Eagles. While they matched up well vs the Vikings, it's not quite the same story this Saturday.

Looking at the weekly Predict Report, which includes a stat matchup table at the bottom of the page, the Eagles show some statistical advantages. First, they can run the ball, equalling the Giants in rushes per game, negating a key advantage the Giants had over the Vikes. More importantly, Eagles have a big edge in the passing game.

Here we see passing offense, with the Giants weakness vs Eagles strength: killer stat, offense where Giants rank 27th and Eagles 3rd.

And on defense, more of the same as we see the Giants on our killer stat, defense, ranking an average 14th, while the Eagles lead the league ranking first. With ranks of 3 and 1 on offense and defense, Eagles lead the league on the difference stat, offense minus defense, our killer stat, making them statistical favorites for the Super Bowl.

Our computer likes the Eagles by 11 after giving them 3 points for the home field. I'll go with the Eagles as well, that passing-stat advantage is just too big to ignore. But I'll repeat that any team coming out of the toughest division (three teams out of the NFC North made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs) has to be respected. Eagles should win, and might go all the way, but Giants are no pushover.
