Seahawks at 49ers

As we write this, our site still suffers from the problem in our database. We will try to use only working features and so we won't have certain graphics available as we've used in the past. We apologize.

If you followed this space during last season's playoff games (for the links, scroll down the Home page to the 2021 Playoff Features), you know we were big supporters of the 49ers. We like them this year too. After taking over due to an injury, Mr. Irrelevant (last player drafted), QB Brock Purdy's offense didn't miss a trick. They rate 5th on yards per pass attempt, our killer stat, offense.

The weekly Predict Report includes a stat matchup table at the page bottom. This shows the 49er offense better than average for rushing attempts, yards per pass attempt, passes intercepted and sacks. Multi-faceted strengths. Seattle, not so much.

The 49er pass defense, led by killer stat, defense, (also rated 5th) is equally strong all around, better than average in all the same stats. Again, refer to the stat matchup table cited above.

As division rivals the two teams faced each other twice, SF taking both encounters. This looks like a contest between one very strong team, the (13-4) 49ers and a near-average team, the (9-8) Seahawks. Our computer likes the 49ers by 12 including 3 points for the home field. I'd say that sounds about right and peg the 49ers with a solid chance for a deep playoff run, maybe making it all the way to the big game. But the parade of storms bombarding California deliver another blow to the bay area this Saturday and the messy conditions could throw a spanner wrench into the works. We'll see.
